Matt Wood

President

Hey guys! My name is Matthew Wood, I'm the President of CCM. I'm in the class of 2023 and I'm studying Mathematics and Leadership Studies. My hometown is Stafford Virginia, not quite Northern Virginia but very close. My favorite event that CCM held was the Beach Retreat to Sandbridge beach in my freshman year. It was the very first CCM event I went to and got to meet a lot of the community and some of my closest friends now.

Marylee Helbling

Communication

Hey everyone! My name is Marylee Helbling. I am a Junior majoring in Marketing with a minor in Graphic Design. I am the Communication Chair for the CCM Leadership Team and I am super excited to be on team again. I am from Fredericksburg, VA, and I love to take random trips to the mountains and/or the beach whenever I can with friends. Here in Newport News, I love going to Lion’s bridge for the sunset and hanging out on the lawn when it’s nice outside (small groups on the lawn are pretty great). My favorite bible verse at the moment is from James 4:8, “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.”

Laura Paquette

Faith Formation

PAQUETTE - SOTO, Laura “Junior”, age 19, formerly of Fredericksburg, VA of the parish, St Mary of the Immaculate Conception, was a third-year majoring in Classical Studies. She was an active member of the CCM at CNU and served as the Faith Formation leader in the current year. Junior was often seen doing her favourite activities, which included dancing, painting (watercolour was her preferred medium), meeting new people, or being in the company of friends. One of her favourite Bible chapters was John:15, specifically verses 12-13 “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Liturgy

I am very excited to work in my new leadership position in CCM at CNU. My major is music composition, but I may continue with a major or minor in German or philosophy. I play piano as my primary instrument as well as viola in orchestra. After college I would like to go to Europe for a career or compose score for film. Hopefully I can grow in CNU's excellent community as I meet new people. I am eager to continue supporting the growth of the Catholic faith while in college!
